Acoustic Perfection’s philosophy of the achievement of near perfect sound reproduction has been achieved by careful selection of a range of tube based amplifiers, on account of their clear sonic benefits over their solid state rivals. The reasons why tube amplifiers appear to outperform their solid state counterparts are many – often defy logical explanation, but there is certainly a growing consensus of opinion that "tubes sound best".
We certainly agree with that.
Whilst we have to admit that there are some excellent solid state designs available – we concluded that on balance- tube based designs enabled us to get closer to our “holy grail” of perfect sound reproduction, therefore we only offer tube based designs. Solid State is out, apart from the Invincible Preamplifier which employs the very best in solid state digital electronics and tube technology to achieve an astonishing result.
SAC is a Company who – in our opinion – manufactures tube amplifiers that outperform the vast majority of their rivals – no matter what the price. Their close attention to detail goes way beyond the average amplifier manufacturer – almost to the point of obsession. Each component is carefully selected, measured, and matched before incorporation. Every tube is hand selected and its position in the amplifier noted. The 100hr fine tuning process ensures an amplifier of the highest possible sonic quality. However the World renowned individually hand wound SILK transformers ultimately define the amplifiers performance, and set them aside from their rivals.
The SAC GlowMaster KT88 is an excellent stereo power amp – which uniquely is a true balanced design – from input to output and has exceptional loudspeaker drive properties not found elsewhere in tube amplifiers below 100W. Switchable to single ended mode – this amplifier simply outperforms other tube amplifiers with its low output impedance and high damping factor.
If you prefer the Single Ended Tube (SET) approach the SAC GlowMaster GM-70 is a force to be reckoned with. This heavyweight simply outperforms amplifiers many times its price, and is certainly a force to be reckoned with in the SET stakes!
The new SAC Passive preamplifier with the SILK Transformer Volume Attenuator STA-522 and SEIDEN 23 steps is now available from us. This passive preamplifier clearly outperforms the vast majority of other passive amplifiers on the market and can be used with high output sources such ad CD and SACD players.
The SAC Invincible preamplifier is likewise arguably one of the finest pre-amplifiers available at any price. Combining modern technology of solid state professional quality digitally controlled analogue volume control with tubes – provides a preamp of extremely low distortion. Modular in design – there are two basic versions available – an unbalanced RCA input, and a balanced XLR input, both of which can be upgraded to full tubed versions at a later date.
SAC also caters for audiophiles who have high efficiency loudspeakers – and therefore do not need the visceral power of the GlowMaster KT88 and GM-70. The GlowMaster 2A3 and GlowMaster 300B Single ended Class A Stereo Amplifiers offer a choice of output of 3.5 or 8W channel, and are eminently suitable for high efficiency horn loaded or certain transmission line loudspeakers.
Octagon Audio is a UK based designer and manufacturer of tube based Power Amplifiers, Preamplifiers and high quality loudspeakers. The Octagon-30 is a push pull 30W monobloc amplifier that uses KT88 in ultra-linear mode. Its twin tube rectifiers and significantly oversized power supply provide a performance that represents the best of tube designs. Being an all tube design – it completely satisfies the needs of audiophiles that are “anti solid state”. Its other main feature is its unique small footprint design – which is both stylish and functional. A matching tube based “high end” preamplifier is currently under development.
