Loudspeakers
The final link in the hi-fi chain is the loudspeaker – which some may argue is the most critical component of all. There are many good loudspeaker designs out there in the market place, but very few that we believe stand out from the crowd. It’s possible to spend as little as £150 for a pair of modest stand mounts that will work reasonably well in a small room – but for the closest approach to the original sound can only be achieved by full range floor-standing speakers, which can cost anything up the £50,000 pair! We believe that outstanding results can be achieved by excellent - no frills- design.
For us the Transmission Line enclosure provides a platform for a level of realism that simply eclipses even the most expensive of vented or closed box designs. The main difficulty with Transmission Line loudspeakers is that they are incredibly difficult to design – and hence there comparative rarity in the market place. Get it right – and you will have winner on your hands. Get it wrong – and they sound awful!
An endorsement to our philosophy is provided by B&W who developed their unique Nautilus loudspeaker using the Transmission Line principle – and this speaker has become a legend in its own life time. However at £28,000 pair it is outside the budget of many audiophiles, and the Octagon range is more affordable and provides a very high sound quality that simply won’t disappoint.
Transmission Line Loudspeakers have:
virtually no sound emanating from the enclosure except the loudspeaker
a large scale open sound – with a total lack of boxiness
a very smooth mid-range
the ability to reproduce the human voice with uncanny accuracy
precisely defined imaging, particularly in the bass region
precisely timed bass without echo or reverberant 'booming'
excellent transient response and uncompressed dynamics
a typical extended bass below a half wave frequency of the reflected line
length typically, even loudspeaker-impedance, from the unchanging consistent load (no reflection resonances)
high efficiency – can be used with low output SET/DHT amplifiers
Acoustic Perfection believes that the extensive range of Transmission Line Loudspeakers from Octagon Audio represent the true “state of the art” in loudspeaker design. Using a variety of carefully selected and matched driver units - the response above 250Hz is ruler flat to 22- 30Khz –which provides a totally natural reproduction of the music – without highs or lows where you don’t expect them. Competitively priced – these speakers will compete very favourably with speakers many times their price!
The cross over design is crucial to this performance and the use of critically designed and selected components ensures a first class result. Our range offers a loudspeaker for every room size, and occasion, and are available to suit all decors - a choice of real wood veneers –or lacquered to suit. Unlike mass- produced loudspeakers – these are produced specially to order.
We also offer stand-mounts for situations where the larger Transmission Line Loudspeakers are unsuitable. These are of a more conventional closed box design, but the same principles of careful choice of speaker units and simple cross over design ensure these perform very well and compete exceptionally well with other brands on the market.
Quality loudspeakers need quality amplifiers such as the GlowMaster series or the Octagon Ag-30. Lesser amplifiers will certainly not deliver the amazing results possible with these outstanding systems.
